Hello everyone. I’m Guillaume Defare, the director and writer of The World After.

My background

I’ve always Passionate about cinema since always, I have directed more than ten short films including La Loi de Morphy a Sci-Fi short movie telling the adventures of a robot having an existential crisis. I have been a scriptwriter, cameraman and assistant director for short films directed by other directors and I was one of the directors of the horror anthology film, Necrologies, with Jean Claude Dreyfus, released in 2019.

Despite my deep passion for cinema, other media such as literature, comics and video games have always inspired me and the first Point and Click games I played have marked my way of thinking and writing forever.

The Pandemic and the laws that came out of it inspired the story of The World After, and the fact that Lesly and François (with whom I’ve been working for a very long time) embarked on the adventure of creating video games made a dream that seemed unattainable come true: writing and directing point and click games in FMV.

The visual arts, whatever they are, allow many exciting and fascinating things and The World After is the starting point of an artistic adventure without equivalent.

My projects

I would love to make a movie again but for the moment the video game remains my priority. Indeed after The world After many other stories are being written…but for the moment I can’t reveal anything…

My nerdiness

The Dark Knight Returns

Science fiction is clearly the closest thing to me and I’m an unconditional fan of cyberpunk Sci-Fi. I’m open to all genres and styles but having grown up with 80’s genre movies, well, it is what it is. Anyway, from James Joyce to Frank Miller, from Ingmar Bergman to Michael Bay and from Dear Esther to Lego Batman, the spectrum is large and exciting. I think you have to be open to everything, even if I have to admit having a weakness for some Sci-Fi franchises.

5 of my favorite Point and Click games

  • The Curse of Monkey Island
  • Broken Sword
  • Discworld II: Missing Presumed…!?
  • Grim Fandango
  • Blade Runner

5 of my favorite movies

  • Blade Runner
  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
  • Dr Strangelove
  • Brazil
  • The Matrix
