2022-02-25 Blog Who are we? 2

Hi everyone! My name is François, and I’m the main graphic designer / producer of Burning Sunset and I live in Vienne, France (near Lyon).

My background

I started as a cameraman in 2009 for a local TV and I mostly worked on short movies and music videos as cinematographer. My career has always been super diverse, I’m a Jack of all trades, and I always loved it. Learning new skills every year, I worked as an editor, green screen VFX supervisor, colorist and also a director between 2012 and 2020, with thematics as wide as healthcare, energy, human rights, dance or music videos. Above all, I always loved the work of a cinematographer and always tried to attend to every shooting I could. Today, I still work on commercials and TV sets, I also teach color grading and History of Cinema in Lyon.

My projects

I co-directed my first feature documentary in 2013, We Can Be Gay Today, a movie about the first open LGBT pride parade in Vilnius, Lithuania.

I was the main cinematographer and editor of Necrologies, a 2019 horror anthology feature. I even directed one of the segments. A follow-up was supposed to happen, but was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We still have all the scripts, so maybe we’ll make a horror anthology FMV?

Necrologies was the first time Lesly, Guillaume and I worked together

I’ve known Guillaume and Lesly since we were students in Lyon. I’ve worked on almost every project directed by Guillaume (including Necrologies), and we shared a common fascination for the FMV CD-ROM era, dreaming about making one oursleves, but having no knowledge about developing a software we never did. When we started making video games with Lesly after making a Youtube channel about games together, Guillaume had the idea of The World After. That’s how Burning Sunset was born.

On The World After, I was producer, cinematographer, editor, colorist, VFX artist (the only I didn’t make was the Tannhaüser gate at the end), UI designer and I even programmed the suitcase and digicode puzzles. It took around a year to make everything.
